Day 10 - 6 September

 Day 10

6th sept

Classy lady was a shop where on our first baby moon (2018) we found an amazing Trelise Cooper dress used for a few photo shoots over lock down 2 or 3.

Keen to make new discoveries Babulya popped in with Mama and came out with a gem.

199 Gympie Terrace, Noosaville QLD 4566

Papa explored the nearby park with mr 3 collecting a few thousand steps and a bunch of sand.

Hastings street was next.

Gelatissimo for icecream (best so far, consistent, fresh, great flavour choice, and tasting available).

Papa found an amazing shirt in Orlebear Brown https://www.orlebarbrown.com/au/men/clothing/shirts/travis/276134.html?dwvar_276134_color=4449&&cgid=men-shirts#start=9&cgid=men-shirts

However, the feel on the rack did not match the wear on the skin - not really a linen guy.

Great black and yellow glasses for mr 3 we’re obtained, but papa could not find the elusive non polarised bamboo frame pair he sought (polarised would be great except they block out the heads-up display in the car… the key spot he’d wear them).

A brief, rain storm, and we drove round to the almost west facing end of hasting street to watch a sunset over water.

Now for date night,

we scoured the dvd shelf at the apartments, finding Rango (a previously watched and reasonable quality kids film)

Destination - Sum Young Guys.

Our first visit was baby moon 2018, road trip 2019 we made the mistake of not booking and missed out.

Booked a few weeks in advance this time. Learnt on the river cruise that bookings were still a must as our fellow cruisers missed out.

The place had moved in the last year, and taken it’s much loved pan-asian fusion to a huge space in Noosaville. The room was dim but cozy, and positively bristling with energetic diners of a wide range of ages - from early 20’s influencers to a table well into their 70’s beside us. There was a fair bit of noise, but we were still able to hear each other.

Birthday cocktail was presented with sparklers.

The menu is set up as share plates of graduating sizes.

We opted for -

Mallolabar Prawn toast with Gochu mayo

Netted spring rolls gem lettuce, perilla and nuoc Cham

Crying tiger short rib, with fried garlic, kaffir and Thai basil

Fantastic Roti

Soy braised eggplant with shiitake ginger, spring onions and chilli

Jasmine rice

Everything was delicious, but two dishes stood out - the netted spring roll was a crispy tofu log, which the customer wraps in the greens with a sweet clingy nuoc Cham sauce. Fresh, sweet crunchy with a little kick, sooo damn good. (Yes, M had tofu, and even liked it.)

The beef short ribs were supple, seasoned with sweet black sticky sauce.  The deep, herbaceous, yet slightly bitter marriage of garlic and Thai basil drew a balanced heat.

Some chilli crept up on us throughout the meal, but was still in our comfort zone. The eggplant and prawn toast were well executed support dishes to the stars, and the wait staff were bubbly, attentive but unobtrusive.

Two cocktails for the birthday girl -

watermelon sugar high - pampero blanco rum, Campari, watermelon, lemon grass, tonic

And

Purple Drink

Tanqueray, luxardo, crazy citrus, savvy B, UBE

There was barely any rice left, and there could have been bowl licking. Lovely framed surf photo prints in the bathrooms were a nice little touch.

Gelato was shut on the way home but the night could not be dimmed by skipping dessert.
