Day 13 - 9th sept - North from Noosa to Bundaberg

Day 13 - 9th sept - North from Noosa to Bundaberg

Packing in the rain was a possibility, but thankfully there was enough of a pause to do the majority without getting wet.

We were able to make it to a cafe just in time to experience a decent downpour of rain and get in an early lunch.

We farewelled Babulya, Dedulya and Noosa.

An ice cream shop from last trip - Mammino - became our next aim.

It had moved to a golf course, which would be considered odd in most parts of Australia, but we were north of Noosa. The warmth, distance and moisture starts affecting everything from business location (things end up in weird places) to traffic (and psychotic driving), access to internet (full 4G with nothing working to one bar of 3G where everything still loads), to the serving temp of your coffee (atomic hot apparently).

We got to the golf club ice creamery as they were closing, and sprawled on the springy cooch after our server closed up to get to their grand daughter’s ballet recital. Sasha chose Jaffa, and could only eat a third, so papa got more. Nastya tried to eat some grass with mixed success. Mama opted for macadamia.

Bundaberg

Papa had booked a cabin in a van park, and the owners had not been answering, and the check in seemed more restricted than usual, and none of it was inducing calm. Upon arrival, it took us a while to find a resident to track down a phone number that was actually the after hours number… as opposed to the non existent one that you get at the end of the long rambling voicemail.

We obtained keys with the involvement of two residents and another set of late guests and unpacked quickly to go search for food.

The two restaurants we wanted had closed down - one several years ago, another literally the night before. Mama got a recommendation from the bottle shop for the RSL, and we thought - why not. It was busy and smelled good. We ordered and watched Sasha follow a bunch of (possibly) local kids around as they played the skill tester… some time passed… we asked after our meals… the order had not gone to the kitchen. 40minutes after we ordered we were eating, and thankfully it was very good. Crispy pork for papa, cannelloni for mama and fish and chips for Sasha.

The carpet was a some kind of tessellated paisley, the live music was 70’s hits played by a bloke who could have been a pop star of the era, the complimentary coffee and cake for our wait was the least nice part of the meal. But If you only do one RSL on a QLD trip, this one would be the one, it is the real deal.

We had an “encounter” with a local resident earlier in the night.

And the sportsing tv watching of our neighbours carried on well well well into the night. Loudly.

As we watched some tv later that night, we had the Kenwood serenade from the nearby highway. We had to pause the tv for 5 minutes as our ‘cabin’ contained as much insulation as a shopping bag, and a down pouring of rain blotted out all sound.

Papa learned he was going to need to be a bit more careful with accommodation choice.
