Breakfast in Concord, packing and playing in Babulya’s glorious garden.

Drove to Newcastle University to meet up with Janet and Ryan, who have settled in well to the coast life. Lovely campus - similar to Macquarie University. Car park a bit squeezy (the car is a bit of a beast), but soooo many trees…

Headed into central Newcastle to look at ‘High tea with Mrs woo’ (worth a browse - https://highteawithmrswoo.com.au) and meet up with Wally. Sasha watched the concrete pumper across the street, where an old beautiful building facade was being preserved on a steep street. Apartments were being installed behind. 

Thanks to a few recommendations - Antijitos for Mexican. Food was solid, Sasha papa and mama all enjoyed the burrito, and nachos, with Nastya trying salsa and beans.

There was a 1960s VW combi in the restaurant that fascinated Sasha.

Leaving Newcastle, it was very apparent that a significant construction boom continued, some of the industrial heritage has been preserved, but the city is going to be very different soon. 


Petrol prices ranged from 1.98 to 1.41… 


Driving into Myall shores, we saw a single wallaby, not quite the promised teeming wildlife. Dirt track to the holiday park.

Oh yes, we’ve discovered holiday parks! A range of available accom, clean, comfortable and larger than expected, most with additional facilities for kids - playgrounds, pools, etc. A Worthwhile discovery. (And the NRMA ones give members a helpful discount)


Dinner was truffled sauce with porcini and truffle pasta (it’s birthday week after all) (thanks Noodles!). 

The water had a tea tree lake colour due to natural tannins, but was still better tasting than the current Queanbeyan water after recent storms. Sasha was bemused with the tea like bath. 

Internet reception was minimal, but the cabin was well appointed. The serenity here felt like it was welcoming us back to travel adventures.


Oh, and Little miss said mamamamam for the first time.

Sun 25th Sept Day 29 A quick start to the day, as Grandma and Grandpa were visiting at Maerey and Kai’s. Dropping through the fruit store on the way in, we picked up more epic strawberries and some watermelon, and arrived to a house in full swing.  Maerey’s backyard was a sea of cousins and aunties… there was a lot going on. Grandma and Grandpa seated in the shade near the swings, while the youngest kids loaded into the hammock, testing the upper limits of the swing set, or racing around the mulberry bush (a real live one). afternoon.  Some cornflour slime was produced, and every child in the yard suddenly descended on this glorious concoction. Day 12 - 8 Sept - Noosa

  Day 12 - 8th Sept Noosa After testing the waters with the shortest Noosa Heads national park walk, it was time to do part of a larger one. All abilities and energy levels considered, the track leading to Tea Tree bay was chosen.  The path was a low impact monument to the protection of the whole headland. Originally the idea was to subdivide the various land parcels -  former farms, and build a road, cutting off any remaining forest from the sea (a key feature of the ecosystem), but even early European inhabitants recognised the environmental value of the area, when they set aside the heads for a future nature reserve in 1879.  60 years later the reserve became a national park, and multiple efforts to water down the rules, only led to firmer resolve to protect this lovely place.  This may seem small, but a string of protections there, to Hervey Bay and beyond, form a shield around K’gari (AKA - Fraser Island). Tue 18th sept - Day 22

 Tue 18th sept - Day 22  Woke up to bird song.  After morning duties were cleared, and porridge was had, mama busied herself with muffin making. The local IGA proved to be excellent for local produce and special dietary requirements - big tick for gluten free flour that did not taste like cardboard or have the consistency of a dish sponge.  Speaking of IGA, throughout the trip we travelled with a big esky. Each town we stopped in we found the local supermarket and diligently found a staff member to ask, - What do you have that’s local? This was both to reduce our carbon footprint and to support the local community. Coles and woollies consistently gave disappointing answers - either blanks looks, “nothin”, “I dunno” or an aggressive “What, you expect me to know where everything comes from???” IGA consistently stood out in the positive (though was admittedly more expensive).
