Mon 17th sept - Day 21 - Atherton

Day 21
Sasha had a persistent cough, and we thought it prudent to get him tested for covid. We discovered that in Qld covid test require a dr referral, and that there was no way to get him in anywhere nearby. As directed, Papa took him to wait at the hospital ER to see if they thought it was serious, but after several hours the only thing clear was that the QLD health system was very stretched in Atherton. The staff were wonderful, but run off their feet, and a lack of bulk billing doctors meant many people were doing what papa was there for - waiting for care a medical centre would be better equipped to give. Five hours later, still not seen, reluctantly they went home.
Maerey and Kai’s home is a quirky and beautifully updated wooden home (a Queenslander, I guess?). It has beautiful touches - (papa developed an affection for their induction stovetop).
The shop front is, Azalea House, showcasing Kai, a jewellery making and artisan-talents. Kai is responsible for our fingerprint wedding rings.

Sasha was introduced to the chickens, and was keen to feed and collect eggs.
Nastya was in the swing of things by lunch time.
Two other residents are Banjo the dog and a cat with no name (Koshka, for the purposes of the blog). Banjo was Grandma and Grandpa’s dog, a long lived jack Russell, and apart from some body parts where patting was not welcome, he is a spritely gentleman, happy to chase a ball endlessly. Koshka is a long haired ginger sweetheart - the kind of cat that melts when hugged, completely incapable of biting or scratching a human, though a little drooly on occasion (and allegedly a chewer of bags and shoes). Mama was shamelessly besotted with the cat (so different to Bloshka at home).
Bonny came over early in the afternoon with Cousins.
Sasha was quickly engaged with the rough and tumble of the back yard with loud sounds of joyous play.
Easing into Atherton-gear, Mama planned some baking for Sunday's planned grandparent visit, Sasha had a proper watercolor lesson from Kai, and painted the first in a series where he made incredibly careful stripes of different colours. Quite lovely to see him concentrating so well.
We discovered a lovely book for Sasha; ‘Banjo and Ruby Red’.
